Sunday Sermon

As the video above wryly recounts, everyone has a reason to not go to church. Nonetheless, every Sunday we welcome hundreds of people to our sanctuary by the shore to share the joyous word of the Lord. If you’ve somehow missed a Sunday, you can view a library of previous sermons by visiting our NCC Vimeo Page.

preparing for SundaySome of our members and visitors find it useful to prepare for our next worship by reading and reflecting on the Bible passages we’ll use in church. If you’d like to do so, please visit Preparing for Sunday.

 Soup & Soul 2018 – A Lenten Season reflection

Madison ParkA Place of Hope by Eric L. Motley

Week 1  pp.      1 – 58       childhood

Week 2  pp.    59 – 118     adolescence

Week 3  pp.  119 – 172     young adulthood

Week 4  pp.  173 – 224     middle years

Week 5  pp.  225 – 300     up to the present

For five Wednesdays during Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, we invite you to join us for “Soup and Soul” from 5:30-6:45 pm in the Multipurpose Room. We will share some homemade soup and bread, prepared by the Parish Life Team, then discuss the recently published book by Eric L. Motley called Madison ParkA Place of Hope (HarperCollins/Zondervan 2017).

This beautifully written book recounts the story of its author, who grew up in the freed slaves’ town in Alabama and is currently the Executive Vice President of the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC. It affirms our understanding that “it takes a village (or a church).”

Since this Lenten book is an autobiography, we will engage, if willing, in the self-discipline of spiritual autobiography. We will write at least one page in advance of each session, though individual preferences will be respected. Before Week 1 we will write about the spiritual experiences of our childhood; Week 2 adolescence; Week 3 young adulthood; Week 4 middle years; and Week 5 up to the present.

At our sessions we will discuss the designated section of the book, and allow time for two members to share part of their writings, if they wish. If you have any questions please speak to Pastor Dianne. Please register in the church office or at judy@nianticcommunitychurch.org. Books are available in the church office ($15) and scholarships are available. Write checks to Niantic Community Church; memo line Soup and Soul. We look forward to seeing you! Invite a friend.

Community Drum Circle (M) @ Multipurpose Room

Join us for the Niantic Community Church Community Drum Circle. It is facilitated by Kate Brodaski who guides a group of members and friends of NCC through an hour of soulful ancient rhythms that current medical research has proven to induce deep relaxation, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and is beneficial for a host of other medical conditions. If that doesn’t make you want to bang on your bongos, drumming is also considered a very spiritual practice. We have instruments or bring your own….Join us for this free nurturing faith activity. No registration needed. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult for the entire session. Bring a friend !

Adult Church School February 18th
