Funerals and Memorial Services

At Niantic Community Church we believe that God is present in every moment, particularly those of great joy and great sorrow, and we see it as a privilege to accompany families in some of life’s tenderest times. We will rejoice with you when you are rejoicing, and we will weep with you when you are weeping.

If you are interested in holding a funeral or memorial service at Niantic Community Church, please contact the pastor by calling 860-739-6208 or by clicking below.

Funerals + Memorials

During difficult times of loss, Niantic Community Church offers a variety of resources. We will walk with you even through the valley of the shadow of death, offering support, guidance, and Christ’s love.

Funeral services (where the body is present) and memorial services (where the body is not present) provide an opportunity to thank God for the life of the person who has died, to offer this loved one to God’s eternal care and keeping, and to proclaim again God’s promise that death will not have the last word. These services typically include words of remembrance, pastoral words, scripture readings, prayers and hymns. Our pastor will be glad to work with you to plan a funeral or memorial service that suits your loved one.

Memorial Garden

Behind the church, under a quiet canopy of trees and along the bank of the pond, the Memorial Garden offers a space to lay loved ones to rest. Just as we are made of the earth, we shall return. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

“If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s” Romans 14:8

If you or a loved one wishes to have their ashes laid to rest in our Memorial Garden here at Niantic Community Church, please contact the church office (860-739-6208).

Purpose

The purpose of the Niantic Community Church Memorial Garden is to provide a portion of the church property for the caring of the cremated remains of our loved ones in a beautiful + meditative state.

Use of the Memorial Garden

Present + former members, their families and friends of Niantic Community Church may use the Garden for the ashes of loves ones. Ashes must be interred directly in the ground. Details can be found in the Memorial Garden Application Form.

Memorial Nameplates

Uniform nameplates will be engraved, with the name of the deceased + dates of birth and death. The nameplates will be permanently mounted on a plaque within the Garden. The information must be given in writing to the Memorial Garden Committee.

Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is kept in our church. It contains a page for a picture + a copy of the newspaper obituary of the deceased, provided by the family. The information should be submitted to the Memorial Garden Committee. A copy of this page will be filed in a secure place in the church.

Funding

To help cover the cost of the memorial nameplate and to maintain the Garden, there will be a one-time interment fee, which will be used for the purchase of the nameplate + garden-area maintenance. Present + former members of the church will be charged a one-time fee of $375. Friends of the Niantic Community Church will be charged a one-time fee of $475. Donations for the upkeep + beautification of the Garden are welcome.

Estate Planning

Interment space can be pre-purchased to communicate to family and loved ones a member’s burial site preference.
